Haridwar, is one of four sites where drops of amrita, the elixir of immortality, accidentally spilled over from a kumbha (pitcher) while being carried by the celestial bird Garuda during the Samudra Manthana, or the churning of the ocean of milk. Brahma Kund, the spot where the amrita fell, is believed to be located at Har ki Pauri "footsteps of the Lord" and is considered to be the most sacred ghat of Haridwar. It is also the primary centre of the Kanwar pilgrimage, in which millions of participants gather sacred water from the Ganges and carry it across hundreds of miles to dispense as offerings in Shiva shrines.
Haridwar is home to several architectural marvels, including the Clock Tower Haridwar also known as 'Raja Birla Tower' is a landmark of the holy city of Haridwar. It was built by Shri Raja Dr Baldev Das Birla of Pilani and stands in utmost grandeur in the city's centre, Mansa Devi, Chandi Devi, Daksha Mahadev temple, Maya Devi temple and Sapt Rishi Ashram etc.
Haridwar is known for its Indian cuisine (North) and street food. Some must-try local cuisines include Aloo puri, Kachori, Rasmalai & Jalebi, Chhole Bhature, Chatt, Samosa and Stuffed parathas etc. Visitors can find these dishes at local restaurants and street vendors throughout the city.
The best time to visit Haridwar is between October and February when the weather is pleasant and the crowds are less. The summer months (April to July) can be extremely hot, and monsoon season (July to September) can bring heavy rains that may affect travel plans. Winter months (October to March) are ideal for sightseeing and outdoor activities
Other popular tourist attractions in Haridwar include Mansa Devi, Chandi Devi, Daksha Mahadev temple, Maya Devi temple and Sapt Rishi Ashram, Shanti Kunj, Bharat Mata mandir, Pawan Dham, Bara Bazar, Patanjali Yog Peeth and Crystal Water park.
