History
Delhi was earlier known as
Indraprastha, thus it is safe to assume that the city is as old as the
Mahabharata. Delhi has witnessed political unrest over centuries. It was ruled
by the Khiljis, Tughlaqs, and Mughals among others. Delhi came under British rule
in 1830 and in 1911 British India’s capital was shifted to Delhi from
Calcutta. Eventually post-independence officially New Delhi was declared
the Capital of India.
